Rosario & San Bernardo Islands

Approximately an hour from Cartagena by boat, the Rosario archipelago, the San Bernardo archipelago, and the island of Barú are enchanting sea locations with fine, white sand and delightful underwater gardens. They are marvelous spots for lovers of sun, beach, and relaxation.

“Parque Nacional Natural Corales del Rosario y San Bernardo” is one of 46 national parks in Colombia and was created to protect one of the most important coral reefs of the Colombian Caribbean coast. Three eco-systems prevail: coastal lagoons, the mangroves around them and tropical forests. The Mocana Indians of the Karib family were the first inhabitants in pre-Columbian times and lived mainly of fishing and picking mollusks.

Today, these islands are an exclusive destination for ecotourism. Its beauty makes them an ideal location to relax, sunbathe, swim, snorkel, and scuba dive; biking or walking around the main islands, bird watching, kayaking, and visiting the Aquarium are as well attractive activities to be enjoyed in these lovely locations.
