Geography

Colombia is bordered on the Northwest by Panama, on the East by Venezuela and Brazil, and on the Southwest by Peru and Ecuador. Through the western half of the country, three Andean ranges run North and South ; the eastern half is a low, jungled-covered plain drained by spurs of the Amazon and Orinoco Rivers, covering more than half of the country┬┤s territory but inhabited by less than 3 % of its population. The fertile plateau and valley of the Eastern range are the most densely populated part of the country.

Colombia┬┤s incredible natural diversity is perhaps the main attraction we present to the world. The varied climatic zones and microclimates have created many different habitats and biological islands in which lives a vast and varied wildlife.  Colombia has more plants and animal species per Kilometer Square than any other country in the world.  This incredible natural diversity is represented in 53 protected areas and countless sites of spectacular beauty.
