Tayrona National Park

Just 45 minutes north of Santa Marta, The Tayrona National Park covers an extension of 15.000 hectares of which 12.000 are on land and 3.000 are maritime. It lays on the foot of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a massif that rises independently from the Andean range and houses an eco system unique in the world-going from sea level to 5780 m- and the habitat of various indigenous communities: Kogis, Arhuacos, Kankuamos and Wiwas.

This tropical beach paradise has a backdrop of lush green rain forest, through which swirl numerous paths that link the various beaches and bays. It is ideal for walking, trekking, and horseback riding, as if in paradise. A great number of species inhabit the park : over 100 mammals, 200 birds and numerous reptiles. It has several archeological sites of the Tayrona Indians, of which the Pre-Hispanic village of Pueblito is the most visited.
